Peter and The Test Tube Babies - Live and Loud

this is a 1990 release from the test tube babies.it was the first record of theirs that i bought from a great record shop in camden.anyway the band originally formed in 1978 and after recording a session for mr. peel they made their vinyl debut being featured on a compilation of brighton bands called ' vaultage 78'.always a band ive wanted to see live but havent managed to yet but they still do gigs occasionally so theres always hope.this is a great live album and features a furious version of my fave 'banned from the pubs' and the always funny 'elvis is dead'.this deserves a place in your collection.so without further ado please listen, enjoy and then leave a comment.thanks!
p.s my scanner is being a bastard at the moment so i had to get the covers from the interweb.

The Cherry Bombz - House of Ecstasy

i picked this up recently in the record and tape exchange shop in greenwich.(if your in london go there and check their bargain basement)i hadnt heard of the band before but when i saw that members include terry chimes(ex-clash) and dave tregunna (sham 69) i had to get it.it also features ex members of hanoi rocks and er...... toto coelo.its a combination of live tracks and studio cuts etc.its got a glam kind of sound but thats probably the 'hanoi' influence shining through.they actually also remind me of the band from the film waynes world.listen to the song 'aint what you do' and youll see what i mean!so hopefulyy you'll listen and enjoy it,like it and then leave a comment on it.thanks!

The Sham Pistols - Live

tonights post is a bit of a ' what if?'.it is the recording of the only and only time the sham pistols played live together, if somewhat briefly.here is what wikipedia had to say about it.
"The Sham Pistols were a group that never really existed. After the break up of The Sex Pistols, guitarist Steve Jones and drummer Paul Cook were looking to form a new band. Various names were mentioned as new bandmates including Bob Geldof, but it was vocalist Jimmy Pursey and bass player Dave Treganna from fellow punk band Sham 69 who were recruited.
At what was intended to be Sham's final concert at the Glasgow Apollo Theatre on June 29, 1979 Jones and Cook had joined Sham onstage for the encore of "Pretty Vacant", "White Riot", "If the Kids are United" and "What Have We Got"? This was to be the start of the new band. Time was spent in the studio where two songs were recorded - "Some Play Dirty" and "Natural Born Killer" (which was later reworked as The Professionals' "Kick Down the Doors"). However problems around deciding the name of the new group (Pursey favoured using 'The Sham Pistols'), and arguments within the band meant that it was not to be. On 19 August Jones and Cook walked out of a recording session, with Jones saying "It's worse than working with Rotten". The studio recordings have never seen the light of day, but the encore at the Glasgow Apollo was released on Sham's Last Stand and Sham 69 Live in Glasgow 1979. The latter miscredits the Sham song "George Davis is Innocent (also known as "The Cockney Kids are Innocent" and "Everybody's Innocent") as the Sex Pistols' "No One is Innocent".
so there you have it kids.if only?id like to hear those studio tracks so if anyones got them please get in touch.now its time again to listen, enjoy and then leave a comment.thanks!

White Stripes - Peel Sessions

ok then here we go with the white stripes and their mega collection of tracks recorded for mr. peel.ive been listening to this collection today and its a bit of a grower if you know what i mean.again a band i know nothing about but i do have a few tracks of theres on my eyepod.this is a mega collection of songs (well 26 actually) so im wondering how many sessions it was recorded in.i asked a mate who told me it was two recorded in july and november 2001 but who knows.i looked on wikipedia but there is so much info about them that it started to hurt my brain with all the reading i had to do.so if your like me and you quite like the band but know nothing about them, then go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_White_Stripes and get busy reading.theres two links here but thats because it came on 2 cd's and so i could u/l it to mediafire.so now all you need to do is read, listen, enjoy and leave a comment.oh and if someone knows where i can get the artwork for these or if someone makes a cover for it please get in touch.thanks!

The Slits - Peel Sessions

keeping things punk and pistols related(ill explain in a second!)finds us with this compilation of slits sessions also recorded for john peel.the band formed in 1976 from the ashes of two bands (flowers of romance and the castrators).the current line up of the band features several of the original line up but also holly cook who is paul cooks daughter and Ari Up (vocals)is also johnny rottens step daughter.there we have the pistols connection.anyway please listen, enjoy and then leave a comment.thanks!

Sex Pistols - There'll Always Be An England

this is a great pistols show here with excellent sound quality.it was recorded at brixton academy not too long ago for a dvd release of the same name.i think the cd here is taken directly from the dvd.anyway not really any surprises with regards the songs they played but its a good document of an always great band live and on record.ive seen them a couple of times and ive always enjoyed it.anyway promise to play this loud, listen carefully to johnnys between song banter, and then enjoy it so much you feel compelled to comment on it.thanks!

Blur - Live at Peel Acres

next up today we have 6 tracks recorded by blur at the late john peels place, peel acres.the date given on the cover is 22/4/97 but again im not sure if its a recorded or broadcast date.oh well.what we do get is great sound, great playing and a great version of 'song2'.ok i know even less about blur than i do the smiths so i'll shut up now but i do like this short set they did.anyway please listen to it,enjoy it and then please comment on it.thanks!

Dee Dee King - Standing in the Spotlight

this is dee dee ramones first solo album.it was made a short while after he'd left da brudders ramone and for all the talk of it being a rap album i dont think it really is.ok yes there are a few 'rap' tunes on it but there is also that trademark ramone surf/punk influence in the writing and guitar playing.weve got songs here like 'commotion in the ocean' that could easily be a ramones tune and of course 'the crusher' which the ramones would record themselves.anyway also here is the 12" version of dee dees single 'funky man' which has an early 'beastie boys' or a def jam kind of a vibe going on.as im starting to babble now its over to you guys to listen, enjoy and then leave a comment.thanks!
