Tricky - Ghost Town part2.

ok this is an apology of sorts.the earlier post of trickys cover of ghost town has a slight problem.one of the mp3s wasnt actually tricky at all.its a (in my opinion not so great) re-recording by neville staples and not tricky at all.i dont how i messed it up.i had it in a folder in an i-tunes compilation called the awesome 80's or some such cack labelled as tricky.dont know how.so to those of you have downloaded it and burnt it to a cd or an mp3 player or whatever gizmo you crazy kids are using today ,im sorry again guys it aint tricky.if you go to lazys blog at bloggers delite he has a recent post with some great ghost town remixes ( All The Blogs Are Being Closed Down.. )which i must download from him right away.if you visit and download some tunes say hello and thanks.hes a good bloke and posts a lot of top stuff.ok thats it for the moment.till later, keep it real, keep it muebles!!!

The Ruts - Something that i said

this is a good compilation for people who like the music of the ruts and are new to their sound but arent really sure where to start.its mainly made up of songs from the first album and a few other singles etc.not really much else to say about this but if you like the band give it a listen as its always handy to have a compilation like this.and also if you are a completist like me and need all their releases you must get it.so listen, enjoy, think back to 1980 and leave a comment.thanks!

Bad Brains - I and I Survived (DUB)

this is the seventh album from hardcore punk legends Bad Brains.this album is largely instrumental and a mainly dub affair (but dont let that put you off !)with occasional journeys to their traditional hardcore punk side.kind of like one of their other albums but in reverse if you like.always a great band to listen to and to go and see live.they still do the odd tour to europe and beyond so go see them if you can.if you like this album you should definitely check out I against I a superb blending of face meltingly fast hardcore punk and great reggae tunes too.so listen, relax, enjoy and leave a comment.thanks!

The_Ramones__-_Hey_Ho..._It_Was_Twenty_Years_Ago.rar

The Ramones - Weasel Face

this is another nice ramones post for all you ramones fans out there.i dont have much information on these tracks as it didnt have any info on the cd but i do know it includes the drumming talents of richie ramone at some point.ive looked on the interweb and some sites say it was all recorded in 87 others that say its from various gigs from 77-87.im not sure.i only got it last week and i havent listened to the whole cd yet !!.anyway its time to play this loud, pogo like a madman, enjoy, and then leave a comment.thanks!
new link below!

The Ramones - Live at The Whiskey

todays 2nd posting is the first of several ramones posts coming your way today.this is a great early gig recorded at the whiskey-a go go in los angeles in november of '77.a vintage year in terms of punk rock.as usual the ramones tear through 25 songs in under and hour at breathtaking pace.they were always an excellent band to go and see live and its sad they didn't receive as much recognition and fame as they should have.anyhoo play this loud, put on your ripped jeans, leather jacket and converse allstars and ill see you in the moshpit.enjoy and leave a comment.thanks!
new link: __Live_-_Whiskey_A_Go_Go_.rar
p.s ive just read the track list on the back cover properly.it says that track 3 is called 'blitzkrieg bob!!' thats funny

The Clash - Live in Jamaica

Good morning listeners.Another top Clash boot to kick things off today. In this recording the sound quality is excellent and the mix is equally good. It's a great performance by the group (Terry Chimes doing a good job on drums - this was his last gig with The Clash) and the group went on very early in the day, at around dawn. Kosmo Vinyl in the 'Introduction' track makes mention of this. In fact, it's worth having this for the quality alone, and the performance is superb throughout. The Guns Of Brixton opens to a great drum intro, and continues excellently. Magnificent 7 is performed really well, and in two parts as well. There seems to be a lot more energy in the reprise (similar to the Who's On First CD), with Joe doing an extended rap with different lyrics.
anyway kids its time to listen, dance, enjoy and then leave a comment.thanks!

The Selecter - Celebrate the Bullet

'Celebrate The Bullet' saw The Selecter cutting their ties with 2-Tone and moving away from that labels trademark sound. Gone are the clasic ska and reggae covers of their debut 'Too Much Pressure', gone too are original bassist (Charley Anderson) and keyboardist (Desmond Brown). However, new recruits James Mackie (Keyboards) and Adam Williams (bass) seem to add an exciting new dimension to the 'Selecter' sound. More band members are involved with the songwriting this time round with chief songwriter Neol Davies providing just 5 of the albums original 11 tracks. The music seems somewhat more atmospheric than their previous lp and singles. Davies''Washed Up and Left For Dead'is particularly haunting. Other classic tracks include Pauline Black's 'Deepwater' and Compton Amanor's 'Bombscare'. All of this plus lavish artwork including full lyrics, extensive sleevenotes and 4 bonus tracks including the minor hit single 'The Whisper' and the rare 'B'-sides 'Last Tango In Dub'and 'Train To Skaville'. All in all a great testament to what a great band The Selecter were in their prime. Anyway give this cd a listen, enjoy the great bonus songs and then leave a comment.thanks!
p.s a bit late but thanks to Liam for this info.

A Tribute to Madness - Various Artists

Tricky - Ghost Town

ok here we go with another cover, this one being a live version of ghost town by tricky.terry hall does a bit of guest vocals but its mainly tricky so in my opinion it counts as a cover!in this post you get 2 versions.one labelled ghost town (live) which is definitely tricky and a studio version which may not be.im not sure to be honest.so please listen and confirm whether or not the studio version is him or not.play loud ,enjoy, do some detective work and then leave a comment.thanks!

Reel Big Fish - Monkey Man

Reel Big Fish is an American ska punk band from Huntington Beach, California, best known for the 1997 hit "Sell Out." The band gained mainstream recognition in the mid-to-late 1990s, during the third wave of ska with the release of the album Turn the Radio Off. Since the band's founding in 1992 and their demo In the Good Old Days..., the only original member remaining is Aaron Barrett. This is another cover of 'monkey man' and a great one it is too.so kids listen, bounce about, enjoy and go on go crazy and leave a comment.thanks!

Snuff - Do Nothing , You're wondering now

Snuff are an English punk band formed in 1986. Their name reportedly came about after a long discussion about names ended up with one of them claiming "That's Enough", which was then shortened to Snuff. The original line up was Duncan Redmonds on drums and vocals, David Redmonds on Trombone, Simon Wells on guitar and vocals, and Andy Crighton on bass.they have gone through a few line up changes since then and are apparently at the moment 'taking a break.'
these two tracks are taken from their 'six of one ,half a dozen of the other' compilation cd which is on fat wreck records.its a 2 disk set of greatest hits and b-sides,rarities etc and is definitely worth a purchase.
so play this loud, enjoy, dance, think of another specials cover not yet listed here, let me know and then leave a comment.thanks!
many thanks to 'biopunk' for the heads up on this one.cheers

Nouvelle Vague - Friday Night,Saturday Morning

im having a lot of fun with this theme of posts of other bands doing specials covers.its amazing what little gems are turning up.this next post is by Nouvelle Vague, who are a French musical collective led by musicians Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux. Their name is a play on words referring simultaneously to their "Frenchness" and "artiness" (the '60s new wave of cult French cinema), the source of their songs (all covers of punk rock, post-punk, and New Wave songs), and their use of '60s Bossa nova-style arrangements.their second album also contains a cover of the buzzcocks classic 'ever fallen in love'.anyway play this, relax, enjoy and leave a comment.

The Ordinary Boys - Little Bitch

this is a great version of the song little bitch that the guys recorded for their album 'over the counter culture'.its played at great speed and i really like it.when they play it live they sometimes have comedian phil jupitus shouting the '1,2' bits.anyway play it loud, dance to the kitchen and back to the computer then leave a comment.thanks!
ordinary_boys_-_little_bitch.rar

Kasabian - Too much too young

this is a pretty good cover of the song that kasabian recorded for a radio 1 cd.every band recorded a song from every year the station had been on air.kasabian got 1980 and did too much too young.so listen, enjoy ,maybe dance a bit then leave a comment.thanks!

Melt Banana - Monkey Man

Melt-Banana is a Japanese noise rock band that was founded in 1992 by friends attending Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. These friends were Onuki Yasuko (also known as Yasuko O. or just Yako), Agata Ichirou, Rika mm' and later on Toshiaki Sudoh (more widely known as simply Sudoh).
i was told about these guys by a friend and this version of monkey man.and yes i know its not strictly a specials cover cos its not a specials original it is a song they are associated with.so listen, enjoy(possibly!!) and then leave a comment.thanks!

S.L.F - Doesn't make it all right

ok here we go then.part 2 of our specials cover version posts.this is a brilliant version of 'doesn't make it all right' recorded by irish punks s.l.f. what you have here is a video of it live recorded in '04 and the live version from their album 'Hanx' from 1979 (i think).although i took my version from the all the best cd as i cant find find the hanx one etc etc its the same.it was also on their studio album nobodys heroes which is a classic you should all check out.there will be a few big s.l.f posts here on the blog soon.so if anyone actually reads these bits above the download link then listen, watch, enjoy and leave a comment.Hanx!

The Prodigy - Ghost Town

beginning a new sort of series (after the specials video collection) comes the new flavour : specials cover versions.obviously the specials themselves recorded several covers but quite a few bands have done versions of specials songs.kicking of this little project is the prodigy with their version of ghost town.i believe it was first performed live at the reading festival in 1998 and was intended to be released as a single but ended up on an n.m.e compilation only.its a good version that i actually like and to be honest didnt think i would.it deserves a listen and i hope after listening and enjoying you leave a comment.thanks!
p.s dont worry there wont be any lily allen or amy shitehouse being posted here as i really hate them both.sorry

Punk & New Wave 1976 - 1979

A 5-CD boxed set compilation of punk/new wave songs. Q magazine gave this 4 stars and said "With Rock'n'Roll now settling down to venerable middle age, this exhaustive document provides a timely reminder of its sneeringly vital adolescence".

The Specials - Santa Cruz Feb '80

For post no.100 i thought id give you this.another great recording from the specials U.S tour in 1980.terry hall really takes the piss out of the crowd between songs and is hilarious, roddy is on excellent form at this show in my humble opinion.i know ive said this before but the energy from the band here is incredible.stand outs for me on this boot are a spiffing version of rat race and a turbo fast skinhead moonstomp!anyway for this one you know the drill.play loud, dance, enjoy yourself and when you have a moment leave a comment.go on its post no.100 say something nice.
to those of you who are regular visitors here and have left comments and words of encouragement (you all know who you are!)i say thanks very much.

The Ruts - Ruts in a can

this is an amazing collection of rare, unreleased material. The remaining Ruts band members agreed to release their original recordings made before signing to Virgin. This is a must for all Ruts and Punk fans alike. This collectors tin contains the original versions of their hits "Babylon's Burning" (No.7, 1979), "Something That I Said" (No.29, 1979 ), as well as their debut single "In A Rut". Also featured are the original versions of "H-Eyes" and classics like "Society", "Criminal Minds", "Gotta Little Number", "You're Just A...", "Savage Circle" and "Give Youth A Chance". Recorded over three different sessions, this album, compiled and remastered by the band themselves (who also supplied liner notes) is Punk rock history!
if you get the chance to get the original of this i highly recommend you do.its a superb package.in the meantime play this one instead, listen, enjoy, dont get in a rut but do leave a comment.thanks!

The Ruts - The Crack

after the success of the ruts at the marquee club post i thought id begin today with this one.The Crack is The Ruts first album, released in 1979 and containing the UK hit singles: "Babylon's Burning" (No. 7 in the UK chart in June 1979) and "Something That I Said" (No. 29 in September 1979) The song "Jah War" which was written in the aftermath of the Southall unrest and the over-use of force by the Metropolitan Police Service's Special Patrol Group in 1979 was also released as a single but didn't make the UK chart.this is a cd rerelease of the album with 3 bonus tracks of bsides etc.once again i prefer the vinyl version but then again i usually do.
ive got more great cds, remixes etc from the ruts and ruts dc if anyones interested let me know or i may just post them anyway!! so play this loud, pogo, enjoy and then leave a comment.thanks!

The Selecter - Too much pressure

this is the debut album from the selecter and a cracker it is too.id not listened to this in a long time until i dug it out of the archives and gave it a spin.it bought so many memories of ska parties from years ago flooding back.i remember trading a pencil case in school for a copy of this album on vinyl and still have it.ah memories!!some great songs on here too like three minute hero, street feeling and a brilliant version of the james bond theme.
anyway this is a rip from the cd and great quality it is too.cover scans etc included for your convenience also.so play it loud, invite the neighbours around for a beer and ting, dance, relax and enjoy.then when youve recovered leave a comment.thanks!

The Ruts - Live at the Marquee Club '79

With their unique blend of raucous punk rock laced with reggae and dub, the Ruts were one of the most exciting bands to emerge from Britain's late-'70s scene. Their career was cut cruelly short by the death of their singer in 1980, but still the group released six crucial singles and a seminal album in their short lifetime. They were also a powerful force within Britain's Rock Against Racism movement, ensuring a political legacy at least as vital as their music.this gig captures them at their most powerful and is rightly hailed as a classic punk bootleg.
so play it extremely loud, scare the cat, enjoy then leave a comment.thanks!

Motorhead - The Young Ones

continuing the theme of bands that have been on the young ones here is motorhead with their classic headbanging anthem 'ace of spades'.great stuff.anyway enjoy this clip, listen, watch and laugh at vyvyan then leave a comment.thanks!

The Untouchables - Wild Child

a great album that was one of the first i bought along with dance craze way back sometime last century.i remember seeing the band on top of the pops and thinking i had to have the record.ive scanned some pics from the vinyl version (ive been playing with the scanner today!)and included 2 bonus extended versions of free yourself and whats gone wrong.so play it loud, dance around(i defy you not to dance to the song 'free yourself' )and when you sit down after with a cup of tea leave a comment.thanks!

p.s the track 'i spy for the f.b.i' was produced by the specials jerry dammers.and the album was mixed by alan winstanley who has done a lot of work with madness.just thought id let you know.

The Dickies - the singles collection

known by some primarily for their hit version of the bannana splits theme, this is a collection of l.a's answer to the ramones finest moments.featuring one of the finest punk guitar solos in their version of nights in white satin, this cd is a non stop, rip roaring ride that is a must for punk partys.ive also included scans of other records from the band and photos etc.
so pogo the night away with the dickies, listen out for the neighbours calling the police, then leave a comment.thanks!

The Italian Job - original soundtrack

one of the films along with the great escape i never get bored of watching.one of the greatest theme tunes ever as well in 'self preservation society'.the film is full of quotable dialouge as well and the best car chase in a british film ever.all the jail scenes were filmed in a famous disused prison in dublin as well.while digging this cd out of the archives i came across a 12" single remix of the theme tune.ill post scans from it later if someone can let me know whether they have it as an mp3 to post.that would be great.so put this on,chill for a bit with the sweet stylings of matt monro and quincy jones and sing along with the self preservation society.then leave a comment.thanks!

The Specials - Unknown gig 1980

the 3rd posting from the specials today is this gem.its only 8 tracks long and other than that i really dont know anything about it.the sound is of good quality but the last track fades out a bit too early for my liking.anyway its got a nice version of sock it to em jb which is always worth listening to.if anyone has info on the origin of this gig id love to hear it.so give it a whirl, whistle while you listen, enjoy yourself and leave a comment.thanks!

The Specials - Rainbow Theatre Colorado

the second of todays delicious 2-tone postings from the muebles archives (or the big box of crap in the spare bedroom as my girlfriend calls it!)is another specials gig from their 1980 u.s tour.once again featuring most of the classics with a great stomping version of guns of navarone as a stand out track for me.this was originally a vinyl boot that someone kindly ripped to cd.so once again dance from the living room to the kitchen with the music on loud, enjoy the gig and then leave a comment.you know you want to.thanks!

The Toy Dolls - live from tokyo

the re-issued 20 tunes album that i also had on cassette this adds 2 extra tunes!fantastic eh!a show that simply crackles with fun and energy.this also shows the guitar skills of olga the bands front man.the man is a genius.most people only know this band for the song nelly the elephant and if thats the case try this album, you wont be dissapointed.there are some great punk tracks here.ive only seen them live once about 15 years ago but that was some gig.this is a great album from another sadly underrated band.
