Sniffin Glue issue 1

 Hello and welcome to the first post of the blog in 2021.So what we have on offer today is the first issue of Sniffin Glue fanzine. First published in 1976,it was a real hand made, hand drawn magazine and would go on to become one of the most widely known magazines from this era.

Anyway this is also a bit of a test post and if it proves popular i will scan the rest of the issues for posting here. I really thought i had lost this vol.1 of my own Clash related compilation,i couldn't find the original disk or file anywhere,and then earlier on today a long time friend of the blog Mr Marky Dread(cheers old chap!!) sent me a link for it.It came from someone else (im sorry ive lost their name but please pass on my thanks and eternal gratitude),its 13 tracks for your listening pleasure and its a cracker.consisting of a few interviews and some great live tracks and tv performances etc etc,this volume of the series is probably my favourite of the lot,maybe as its the first one i did or something ,who knows?but hopefully you'll love it as much as i do.anyhoo please listen enjoy and leave a comment.thanks!

Another post for your delight and listening pleasure this evening we have a live show from the selecter recorded in amsterdam in 1980.top sound in this one from a broadcast on a dutch radio station which is why this has such brilliant sound quality.i recently got this copy from camden dave but i dont know where he got it.anyway the band are on top form in this show and is a real joy to listen to brilliant versions of classics like 3 minute hero and train to skaville.so listeners its time for you to listen to it for yourselves,enjoy it so much you want to leave a comment.thanks!

With the sad passing on Tuesday of Beat vocalist Ranking Roger at the far too young age of only 56, here is a reposting of a show from the band recorded in Hammersmith in 1982.RR was an awesome presence on the stage,non stop bouncing,dancing and singing from start to finish,a true gentleman who even though i never met him,will miss him terribly. Greetings mondo de muebles people.Once again the blog has taken a bit of a back seat for a while. Recently i started re publishing posts just to keep the blog active.Then problems started to crop up. I cant for the life of me remember the password for that particular mediafire account nor for the e-mail address associated with it. So the only thing i can think of doing is opening a new account with them or something similar. this is another show from the 'take the 5th tour'.The tour swings down south into Georgia and Texas but without the Undertones who left after the Toronto gig. The band and particularly Joe were excited and inspired by playing in the southern states for the first time. Money problems continued; with Epic not coming through, the road crew were particularly difficult with drastic measures needed by Johnny Green and Baker.Pennie Smith was at the gig taking photos; one at least is credited to Atlanta on the back cover of London Calling.so this is a great sounding gig but with an edge to it.i cant explain what but listen for yourselves,play it loud till the neighbours threaten to call the police,then turn it down and leave a comment.thanks!

an interesting one for clash completists is this long out of print album from one time clash member keith levene."This was Levene's first proper release. 12 tracks mostly made up of instrumentals or cover versions. The majority of tracks come from his two previous EP releases" (from wikipedia).two of the cover versions are the ska classics 'liquidator' and 'double barrel'.its an interesting album and one you should like.so now you just have to listen,enjoy and leave a comment.thanks!

For One Night Illegally - The History of Bootlegs

Evening all.here is a really interesting post i received yesterday from Mr Camden Dave.It's a show originally broadcast on Radio 4 in 2009 In which as the title suggests the history of the bootleg recording is traced from the earliest recordings at the Metropolitan in New york in the late 1800's through the 60's and 70's up to the present day(well 2009 at least!).an interesting piece to listen to on your commute to work or similar it runs just under an hour and is well worth a listen.so please listen enjoy and leave a comment,thanks!

hi all.ok id better explain a bit about this post.whilst listening ages ago to the clash version of garage punk classic 'louie louie' i remembered i also had several other versions of this track.i had ones by iggy pop,motorhead,the beach boys,the kingsmen,richard berry,black flag and so on.i thought it would be a good idea to try and compile as many other versions as i could.with all the ones i found this posting could easily have run for several postings,there are so many out there!ive put the ones i liked the best including all the ones mentioned above.theres some great instrumental and easy listening versions here too.so anyway if you like this song and like me youre a bit of an obsessive nerd(my wifes words not mine!) then youll love this.so here you go with 27 (yes 27!!) versions of one of my top 3 alltime favourite songs.sit back, listen, relax and enjoy this compilation of a proto-garage-punk-reggae-easy listening-headbanging classic.then leave a comment.thanks!

Evening all.here we have for your reading enjoyment this evening ,all 11 issues of Punk Lives ! magazine.Originally published in '82/83 i think,it features all the bands you'd expect such as The Exploited,GBH,Alien sex fiend,Vice Squad,Serious Drinking,Peter and the testtube Babies etc etc from the time.
